My little guy is three weeks old and only will sleep in his bouncy chair, swing and carseat or you holding him. He spit up a lot the first weeks and now seems good. However I can sometimes here him swallowing really hard and I wish he would just let it buck so he will feel better. He would spit up so bad that it would go into his nose and I would continously be suction it out. Another thing is is that he wont take a soother. And I don't want the bottle to become the soother. He acts like he wants it but he keeps his tongue on the roof of his mouth and so its hard to try and give him that and its even a fight with the bottle. Someone said that he may be tongue tied but he shouldnt be able to get his tongue to touch the roof of his mouth right? I told my doctor about the only sleeping sitting up and he told me it was because I was letting him do it and not giving him time to get used to sleeping on his back. HELLO if your baby is screaming because he is lying flat doesnt that give you a good reason to check things out? He even cries when I lay him down to change his butt. But I also wonder if it has something to do with the fact that he come out completley covered in bruises and it makes me wonder if something isnt out of place or dislocated. Any suggestion or answers I will greatly appreciate because I am soooo confused and frustrated!!Plus too top everything off I am feeling extremely giulty about giving up breastfeeding/pumping!! Please help!!

Is your doctor a general practitioner or pediatrician? Not that one is better than the other necessarily - what matters is how open the doc is to new research and how willing s/he is to listen to what the parents report.

The reason I'm asking is that in my humble opinion, two weeks is too little for a baby to have to "figure out" how to sleep on his/her back if s/he isn't comfortable there. And the symptoms you describe, while I am not a doctor, sure do sound like the question of reflux might need to be investigated more thoroughly.

Your baby cries because your baby is uncomfortable. And the people your baby trusts to fix things, are you and your spouse.

Try placing a stack of 3-4 prefolded style cloth diapers on your changing table and laying babe that way while changing diapers - lay his upper body on the diapers so he's more elevated. Your baby may sleep in a carseat too (depending on the type of carseat).

Now why was your baby born covered in bruises??

As for the feeling guilty about not B/F don't because you tried and you did your best, that's all you can expect from yourself ok!! :)
