Eye Goop

Can someone tell me what the goop is in my month old sons eye? Its only there sometimes. It starts in the corner and runs across his eye lashes and down his cheek when he is sleeping. It is only in the one eye and again is not there all the time.

Should I take him to the dr. or get eye drops?

I would have him checked because it could be pink eye, but more likely its just a blocked tear duct, which is very common. Your ped can show you how to massage it to help it open up correctly. If it doesn't work after several months they can open it up with a very simple procedure, but usually its not necessary. Its not dangerous.
