Hi,
well your baby is eating the correct amount for his weight, although I don't know how often you are feeding him. You should be feeding him every 3 hours through the day and evening!! Does he throw up afte revery feed or just some?? It sounds as though he may have gerd, I would take him to your ped and get him checked out!!
Thanks
Kathy

hi yes i feed him about every 3 hrs sometimes less and especially at night when i lay him down in the bassinet. he seems to wake up about every 1 1/2 to 2 aometimes he sleeps like he suppose to ! and he doesn't throw up after every meal and when hes not throwing up he seems to be spitting back up more than a usual baby! but i have arranged for him to go to the doctors so i guess we will find out ! what causes gerd? is it a bad thing?

Hi,
Gastroesophageal reflux is the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus. Under normal circumstances, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) acts like a valve to prevent backflow.
During the first year "spitting up" is a normal phenomena in infants. It generally takes about a year for the LES to mature.
Sometimes your baby may need to be put on one-two medications, they are called Zantac that is for the pain and metaclopromide that is to help with the spitting up.
So generally it's not such a big deal, unless your baby continues to spit up at the same rate after the first year, it can lead to a failure to gain weight adequately, irritation of the esophagus, and aspiration with respiratory difficulties. Although I wouldn't really worry about that too much, I have never had a baby continue to spit up at the same rate in 15 years!!
Hope this helps!!
Kathy
