my newborn is 10 days old. he sleeps pretty much all the time. he takes anywhere from 3-4 oz sometimes 5 depending on the last feeding. he normally sleeps better during the day. at least he seems to sleep longer. at what point do i need to worry that he has his days and nights mixed up? if we go to bed at 9:00ish he is normally awake by 1:00. the problem here is he seems to stay awake longer. sometimes from 1:00-4:00. i cant get him to stay awake like this during the day. even if i give him a sponge bath he still goes right back to sleep when i dress him. any advice??

thank you...ive tried the cool cloth. we have started putting ceral in his formula due to him not getting full. he was starting to eat every 2 hours 6-7 oz at a time. he is now going on 4 weeks old and eats every 5 hours about 5-6 oz with the ceral. thanks for the advice!

Hi,
I highly would not recomend giving a four week old baby cereal, especially in a bottle!! Giving a baby that young cereal can cause severe digestive problems in the months to come!!

What do you suggest I do? The cerel idea came from several friends and family that did it with their children. This is my first child and I know he is going to be awake a lot but is it really normal for him to wake up ever 2 hours to eat and eat 5-6 oz at a time?

Hi,
Here is what I would do!!
It is going to be very hard for one night but then it should be much better ok!!
Let's just say he has his last feed at 9pm, then I would get him up for a dream feed at 11pm. Then if he wakes up before 3am give him his pacifier if he has one or your finger if he doesn't!! Do not feed him before 3am!! Then feed him at 3am put him back down to sleep!!! Then Do the same thing until a 6am feed!!!
From what I have worked out your son is 3 weeks old now?? How much does he weigh??
As I said the first night is going to be really bad, but then the second and third night and so on will be so muc better!!!
Goodluck!!

he was 4 weeks old friday... he weighs about 8 1/2. i suppose my major problem is trying not to let him wake his daddy up. he has to get up so early. the weekend would prob be a good time to try this that way we could get that extra sleep and we could do this together. one problem we had was that my mother in law kept him last weekend on saturday night and she didnt dilute the formula. gave it to him straight from the can. he has been messed up since. i will try this thank you!
