Hi Kathy,
I wanted to know if it is normal for a preemie to not cry often? My son was born at 28 weeks and is 34 weeks, 4 days now and doesn't cry often. For all I know he might just be a contented baby, but it seems that the other babies in his nursery are super loud. When he is irritated he grunts and turns red and opens his mouth, but usually no (loud) sounds comes out. I have heard him cry a bit when they were taking blood from him, but it wasn't anything major. Just wondering overall, havent found much on the subject, thanks!
Maureen
PS - he had a grade 3 IVH that has since diminished, if that gives you any more insight, he was also only on the ventilator the night he was born. He had a CPAP on and off for a week at the most and was mostly on a cannula (mostly for the flow, o2 never was up beyond 25-30% on his worst days) up until last night.
