I have been following his advice and it seems to mostly work. Here is my problem now. My daughter has been waking up earlier and earlier. Her naps have gotten shorter and shorter (2x 40min). Plus night waking at least once a week. She is fussy, irritable, cranky, just plain overtired.

His advice is usually an earlier bedtime. We have been putting her to bed at 6:30. It helped for one day and stopped.

This is where I have questions with his advice. If I put her to bed even earlier so she can catch up on sleep, how do I get her back to going to bed a little later without making her sleep deprived again?

He also contradicts himself and says sometimes a too early bedtime cause a too early wakeup time and poorly timed naps that lead to the child needing to go to bed early.

How am I supposed to know which one to do? I am so frustrated.

Any advice?
Aimee

I haven't read the Weissbluth section yet for 12 mos. + as my son is 10 months, but it sounds like you should put her to bed earlier than 6:30 (like at 5:30) until her naps get better. Then you worry about pushing out the times to make a later bedtime.

I agree that he does sometimes contradict himself. However, I have found that putting my son to bed earlier results in a better and longer night's sleep. My sister had the same results with her son.

Good luck.
