Sleeping Blues

My 1 year old does not sleep through the night. I have tried several things. Recently my husband and I decided that I am going to have to go back to work and him not sleeping kinda puts a damper on this. Is there any suggestions you have? When he wakes up I can get him and hold him but once I put him down he wakes back up. He doesnt take a sippy cup in the middle of the night just his paci. He is on a schedule during the day. He eats about the same time and sleeps about the same time. He takes about 1-1 1/2 hour nap around 3 ish. If I put him to sleep around 8:30 at night he wakes up at 11:00 ready to go full force. Please help.....

Hi,
It sounds to me as though your baby doesn't know how to put himself back to sleep. Do you rock him to sleep? Does he use his paci to go to sleep? After you answer these questions then we can get on a sleeping program ok.

He normally goes to sleep either sitting in my lap or laying next to me in bed. When sitting in my lap he is not being rocked he just climbs up and goes to sleep. When he lays next to me he has his blanket and I lay on the bed near him and he goes to sleep. He takes a paci most of the time when he is going to sleep. He is teething and from what I have heard this might cause some problems with him sleeping. Thanks

Since I first wrote he has slept for about a week without waking up. He did wake up one night and I let him be for a few and he went back to sleep. Maybe he is trying to get set up!!

That sounds great, but remember to always try and have him put himself to sleep so that when he does wake up he will be able to put himself back to sleep.
