Umbilical Cord

Hi,
The hospital where my daughter was born told me not to put anything on her umbilical cord but then a friend told me to put alcohol on it. What did everyone else do??

I didn't use anything but my son's fell off after only 6 days..

Hi,
The reason the hospitals don't want you to put any alcohol on the cord is because they don't want the skin around on the tummy to getr alcohol on it and dry it out. I always like to use the alcohol so it falls off quicker and then it won't smell either, just make sure you only put the alcohol on the cord and be sure to get it underneath the dry area of the cord, meaning you will have to pull it back to get in there.

The hospital where my son was born they put this purple stuff on it so then you don't have to put anything on it and the purple dye stuff dries it out as well.
