Baby Won't Nap

Hi Kathy,
My son who is 5 months old sleeps very well at night, he sleeps from 7pm-7am. He then takes a good morning nap for 1 1/2 hours then in the afternoon he is impossible, I have tried everything, letting him cry to rocking him. Any suggestions??

Hi,
I am very sorry that you are having problems with getting your baby to nap. Here is my suggestion:
Rock your baby just until he is getting sleepy and his eyes start to close then put him in his crib. He is going to cry but it's not out of pain or need of anything all he is telling you is Hey, I don't know what to do, how do I put myself to sleep. He will probably do this for a couple of days until he works out his slef soothing skills becasue basically you have been soothing him all the time and he needs to work out how to do it. Now the next question I have for you is how long between naps is your baby awake, because that is another factor to consider, being overtired. Don't let your baby be awake for any more than 2 hours from the time that he woke up the last time.
