Hello I am a new mom of a 2 week old baby who will not stay asleep in her basinet. She has this problem like every other night. I will put her to sleep after her feeding and then put her down in her basinet to sleep for her 3 hours until her next feeding and then she will wimper and then full on cry until I pick her up. As soon as her head hits my arm she is out like a light. It's like there is magic in my arm or something. Needless to say this is bothersome and sleep depriving. Is this colic? or will this cause problems later for her sleep pattern? She does sleep for quite some time if I leave her in my arm. Please help me how do I get her to be happy in the basinet like she is on some other days?

sincerely,
DANA M. new mom

Hi Dana M.
I know it is sleep depriving when your little one won't stay asleep in their bassinet/crib!!
I have to ask you one question. What happens if after she is asleep you try to put her back in the bassinet????
Although I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to my own question!!
Well you will be happy to know that your baby does not have colic!! :D Although she may have a little gas, that would explain why she only does this every other night!! I would try giving her a little Mylecon or Gripe Water after the last feed before you are trying to put her into the bassinet!! Also make sure you are swaddling her as babies love the security that swaddling provides and it helps to keep their little arms from waving all over the place because they have no control over their nervous system just yet. You don't need to worry about her sleep pattern just yet, not until she's about 3 months old ok!! I hope this helps and please keep me informed!!! :D
