Hi.
I know that only the really lucky parents have babies who sleep through from early on. However, my 2 month old daughter goes to bed about 7pm and then wakes at about 1am then continues waking every hour or so after this and cries for about 30 minutes before going back to sleep. No matter whether I try to give her her dummy, cuddle her or what-ever she wont go back to sleep. I give her a big feed at 1am so it can't be that she's hungry...can it?

Hi,
Wow that is great that your baby goes to bed at 7pm, that's great, although you might want to give her a dream feed right before you go to bed to save you from waking up at 1am, if you give her a big feed at say 11am then she should sleep through until 6am, although this does depend on how much she weighs, how much does she weigh??

Oh yes, I always give my daughter a dream feed at 10.30pm right before I go to bed and she doesn't wake up until anywhere between 5.30-6.00am. Try it, it works!!

Thanks for replying.
She weighs 4.2kgs.
I've tried waking her up at 10/11 a couple of times to give her a feed and she takes it. However she still wakes up at the exact same times throughout the early morning. Because of this I stopped waking her because I thought there was no use. I've also tried giving her a double feed (which she also occaisonally takes) at her first waking but once again she still wakes up and takes all her other feeds as well.
Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Well your baby is still too small to sleep through the night, she needs to weigh 10lbs or over 5kgs. I would keep putting her to bed at 7am, then try giving her dream feeds at 9pm and then at 11pm, then I would not feed her again until she wakes up. Hopefully that won't be until t least 5.30-6.00am. Please keep me posted.
Good Luck

Hi auzziekat.
I tried the two dream feeds hoping for a good long nights sleep...
She still woke up at 1:00 and then 4:30 and then 6:00.
Also I did the for a couple of nights in a row and then stopped for 1 night, she now does not sleep through any part of the night at all and is waking up every three hours. Please tell me this is a growth spurt and I haven't ruined her sleep patterns!

Hi,
Yes it is a growth spurt as babies have them between 6-10weeks of age!! No I don't think that you have ruined her sleep patterns. Here's what I would keep doing on a regular basis, I would keep giving her the dream feed around 10-11pm before you go to bed and she how she does on that. By the way are you feeding her every three hours during the day???

I got advice from my pediatrician on how to help my guy sleep through, which he then did at about ten weeks.
She said:
1. Babies make noises in their sleep, wait after hearing a noise to make sure he is really awake (this applies if in your bed or room with you).
2. Make sure to feed baby every three hours during the day and cluster feed in evening/afternoon before he goes to bed.
3. Put baby in bassinet, not in bed with us; then by two months of age put him in his own room.
4. Feed at around 10pm even if he is already asleep.
5. Swaddle him. (This also increased his nap times from 30 minutes to over an hour)
6. Lastly, put some noisemaker in his room, like a humidifier or a fan.
I was worried about having him in another room, but with a monitor I get to him before he even cries. I hear him when he "squeeks" when he first wakes up and get to him before he gets upset. My husband and I both sleep better now too.
