Nursing my 1 week old

Jack is a week old and he is nursing great.But sometimes he will only do one breast.I like him to do both.It hurts when he latches on but once he gets started it's okay.Is it normal to hurt at first? And is it okay for him to only do one breast at a feeding?
Hope he will be on a schedule soon,so exhausted.And he poops every time I nurse him,I am going through so many diapers anyone else?

It should only hurt for about 30 seconds after he latches on, if it continues to hurt you may want to check his latch, you can go to www.babiesadvantage.com/articles or pumpstation.com and check it out. As for him doing only one breast that is ok, if it hurts a bit you could pump off just a little bit so it doesn't hurt anymore. Here is a little trick that I have learned about the diapers, if he is wet before you start breastfeeding don't change him until he poops during the feed!!
